It’s a tough time to be a parent

It's a tough time to be a parent. With the national formula shortage, low childcare availability, and the heartbreaking news from Texas this week, parents are dealing with unprecedented challenges.

The cost of housing is also making things harder, especially on single parents. Jesse Tree works with many single parents who are barely making ends meet each month. On a single income, it's nearly impossible to afford rent for a 1 or 2 bedroom apartment and also save up for a rainy day. When a parent has to choose between their child's health or care and paying the rent, they often prioritize their kids. Unfortunately that can then lead to an eviction.

This year, we have supported hundreds of parents in their efforts to keep a roof over their little ones' heads, allowing their kids to avoid the lifelong health issues that eviction can cause. We were able to support many of those families with generous support from community members during Idaho Gives last month, so thank you. We were able to raise over $60,000 which will allow us to prevent eviction for 30 families made up of 120 kids and adults. We know our community agrees: Treasure Valley kids are our future, and they deserve to have a safe and stable place to call home.
