How case management keeps people housed
As part of our summer deep dive on Jesse Tree programs series, this month we'll cover the amazing work our case managers do.
Jesse Tree provides tenants in the eviction process with financial assistance coupled with case management. Case managers make sure tenants avoid immediate eviction and stay housed long after they leave Jesse Tree.
One case manager at Jesse Tree provides around 240 families - or 600 individuals - with case management and financial assistance each year!
Jesse Tree maintains robust policies and procedures and training that all of our case managers follow to ensure quality and consistent services to prevent eviction are provided. That being said, our process is client-centered and trauma-informed. Each client is unique and has different needs, and our case managers adapt accordingly. The eviction prevention process can look different from person to person.
Case managers provide our clients with more than just a rent check, offering wrap-around support. It is their mission to keep our clients in their homes, and also to keep them stably housed for years to come. In addition to financial assistance, case managers provide tenants with: Landlord mediation Connections to resources Connections to jobs Financial literacy training Goal-setting through the creation of a "Housing Stability Plan" Information on tenant rights and responsibilities In short, our case managers are prepared do whatever it takes to keep our neighbors housed.
Because of the magic they work, 96% of the people we've served over the last three years have not come back to Jesse Tree or gone to emergency shelters.
It just goes to show you what a little bit of support and funding can do for a family during a critical time of need. Next month, we'll talk about the work we do in eviction court to stop evictions in real time.
