Eviction Court

Interactions with tenants who have court can vary depending on what county they live in!

ADA COUNTY

  1. Check if the client is already in the CRM by searching the client's name, phone number, and/or email address.

    1. If the client is NOT already in the CRM, please go through the Screening Form to add them to the system

If the client IS in the CRM, check the “Application Status” field to see if the system knows they have a court date; if the Application Status is not “Pre-Court Assignment,” please collect the tenant’s Case Number and Date/Time of Hearing and send that to the Slack Client-Profile-Updates channel

  2. Go to the “Recent Conversations” section of the client profile and verify if they’ve received the Eviction Court-specific email sent automatically by the CRM when a tenant with a court date is added or updated.

    1. This email will include an attachment of the Ada - What to Expect in Eviction Court document as a PNG and a PDF

    2. If a tenant has NOT received this email, please do NOT manually send it to them—it has to be sent by the CRM. Message Cassandra on Slack, and she will fix the issue as soon as possible.

  3. Go through the following talking points with the client:

    1. Don’t miss your court date–if you do, you’ll get a default eviction judgment, and at that point no one can really help you

    2. Eviction court is in-person at the Ada County Courthouse. 200 W Front St. Boise, 83702

    3. During court, you may request for Jesse Tree to assist you during mediation.

CANYON COUNTY

    2. Eviction court is in-person at the Canyon County Courthouse.

    3. Canyon county does not currently offer mediation for eviction court, but tenants can request a continuance from the judge to still be able to benefit from mediation.

      1. You may ask the Judge during your hearing for a continuance to give you time to seek legal counsel or to do professional mediation with Jesse Tree.

      2. Ask the Judge to grant you a continuance for either of those reasons.

      3. Judge may grant a minimum of 2 days time, but this is not guaranteed.

Not sure if someone has court?

The courts have an online portal that is publicly accessible, known as iCourt. If a tenant isn’t sure if their landlord has filed for a hearing, or if they aren’t sure what their case number is or the date/time of their hearing, you can follow the instructions in this PDF to search for them in iCourt.
